Here is your monthly Test and Measurement update from Pico Technology.

1.  New Product! Four-channel Oscilloscope Kit for Automotive Diagnostics

Our award-winning Automotive Diagnostic Kit now has a big brother, the new Four-channel Automotive Oscilloscope Kit. Developed after feedback from users of the two-channel kit, the new kit includes our latest four-channel PC Oscilloscope, the PicoScope 3423 (see below), and has already been specified by several major vehicle manufacturers for dealer-level diagnostics. Like the original kit, the new kit is designed to help automotive technicians and engineers investigate faults in the electrical and electronic systems of all modern vehicles. It includes our powerful but easy-to-use PicoScope Automotive software and a technical reference library of tests and tutorials on over 50 topics, including waveforms. The kit includes clamps, ignition pickups, test leads and probes and is packaged in a hard-wearing carry case.

The kit can be used to diagnose faults in:

  • ABS, crankshaft, camshaft, MAP, MAF, throttle position, knock and lambda sensors
  • Primary and secondary ignition circuits
  • Glow plugs and timer relays
  • Fuel injectors
  • Fuel pumps
  • Alternators and starters
  • CAN Bus
  • and many other sensors and actuators

2.  The New PicoScope 3423 Automotive PC Oscilloscope in Detail

We have extended our range of automotive PC Oscilloscopes with a new four-channel, USB-connected automotive PC Oscilloscope, the PicoScope 3423. The new oscilloscope's large memory buffer allows complex, long-duration waveforms to be viewed at full resolution. Its four channels allow four waveforms — for example, four fuel injector currents or four secondary ignition voltages — to be viewed together on the same display. Like all our oscilloscopes, the PicoScope 3423 is compatible with our well-established and easy-to-use PicoScope software.

New features:

  • Four channels
  • 20 millivolt to 50 volt measurement ranges
  • Fast USB 2.0 connection
  • Faster screen updates
  • No mains adapter required (powered by the PC's USB port)
  • 20 Msample/s sampling rate
  • 512 ksample memory buffer

3.  New 2005 Catalogue!

The new A5, 52-page colour catalogue is free and includes our latest products, including the USB TC-08 Thermocouple Data Logger and the PicoScope 3000 Series PC Oscilloscopes.

We will enter all requests for the catalogue into a prize draw to win an iPod mini.

4.  Automotive Trade Show / Commercial Vehicle Show and Automotive Training

  • 5th to 7th April 2005 — NEC, Birmingham, UK

This month Pico will be exhibiting at the Automotive Trade Show and Commercial Vehicle Show — Europe's biggest and most successful business-to-business commercial vehicle and automotive trade show. There will be some 630 exhibitors in 11 halls.

Visit Pico at stand 12-302 and see our latest products — including the new Four-channel Automotive Oscilloscope Kit and the amazing FirstLook engine sensor. Our technical specialists will also be available to offer technical advice, suggest suitable training courses and discuss any requirements you may have, and you can take away a FREE software and reference CD.

  • 14 April 2005 — Basic Engine Management Diagnostics using PicoScope — Leeds, UK
  • 15 April 2005 — Advanced Engine Management Diagnostics using PicoScope — Leeds, UK

This month Pico will be holding another two-day series of Engine Management Diagnostics courses. You can attend just one course, or save money by booking both together.

The Basic course introduces the working principles of Engine Management systems, testing components and system diagnostics using oscilloscopes. The course is split between theory and practical demonstrations in a workshop using the Pico Automotive Diagnostic Kit.

The Advanced course is a detailed study of electronic engine controls including fuel and emission management. The focus will be on using PicoScope to evaluate engine systems and their components, including sensors and actuators such as injectors, lambda sensors and ignition components. The course is split between theory and practical demonstrations in a workshop using the Pico Automotive Diagnostic Kit.
