Here is your monthly Test and Measurement update from Pico Technology.

1.  New Product — EL041 Thermocouple Converter

Pico Technology are pleased to announce the EL041 four channel thermocouple converter designed for use with the EnviroMon data logging and alarm system.

The EL041 is an important product in two areas, first of all it expands the use of the EnviroMon system to applications requiring the measurement of high or low temperatures (-270°C to +1820°C). Secondly, it forms the base of a stand alone thermocouple data logging solution - previously to record from thermocouples required the use of the TC-08 thermocouple data logger and a PC.

The EL041 has a list price of £199 (approx $367 / €298) and is available immediately.

2.  New Product — Commercial Vehicle Diagnostics Kit

A new version of our award winning Automotive Diagnostics Kit has been launched aimed specifically at the commercial vehicle market. Based around the ADC-212/100 PC oscilloscope, the contents of the kit and the software are tailored to meet the demands of testing trucks, vans and other commercial vehicles. For vehicle manufacturers, the library of tests/waveforms can easily be customised to suit specific requirements.

More information on the kit is available at http://www.picoauto.com/commercial-vehicles-kit.html, or read the press release (available in English, German, Italian and Spanish.)

3.  New Product — 2000A AC/DC Current Clamp

Pico Technology has a separate website specifically for test and measurement accessories . This site contains test leads, oscilloscope probes, load cells, pH electrodes, thermocouples and current clamps.

New this month is a 2000A AC/DC current clamp priced at £99 (approx $179 / €148.)

4.  Oscilloscope Training Course

Most electrical or electrical engineers are taught how to use oscilloscopes at a very early stage in their career, and continue to use this versatile tool throughout their working life. However, many people who don't have the benefit of this training or experience are called upon to use these complex instruments.

PC Oscilloscopes are becoming more and more popular, and the range of applications continues to increase and diversify. For this reason many more people are being asked to use these instruments without even a basic knowledge of just what an oscilloscope is, how it works, and how to get the best from it. Pico Technology, the market leader in PC Oscilloscopes, have recognised this problem, and have designed a training course "Basics of PC based digital oscilloscopes, and how to get the best from them."

This is a half day course, and is priced at £50 per attendee. It assumes no knowledge of oscilloscopes, and has the overall objective that each delegate will understand basic operation and functionality of the instrument. On completion, each delegate should be able to make basic timing and amplitude measurements.

The first course will be run at Pico Technology's headquarters in St Neots, UK on Wednesday May 5th. If you are interested in attending or require more details please contact us.

5.  FirstLook Sensor Wins Innovation Award

We are pleased to announce that the FirstLook engine diagnostic sensor has been awarded an Innovation Award from "Professional Tool & Equipment News".

6.  Automotive Training Course

There are still a few places left for both the basic and the advanced training days on the 14th and 15th April 2004. The course is held at the Green Flag training centre at Leeds, UK. For more information and online booking please visit http://www.picoauto.com/training/.

7.  Automotive Diagnostics Kit — New Support Option

One of our US based distributors has asked us to publicise the new support details they offer for owners of the automotive diagnostics kit:

“Pico Technology provides some of the best product support of any company I know of. This makes it a pleasure and an honor for me to distribute their automotive line of products in the US. Even so, Autonerdz offers an additional support package, which is included with the purchase of our automotive kit. None of this is meant to replace the fine direct Pico Technology factory support. This package is meant to enhance your PicoScope experience by providing additional support resources for automotive specific application and education. This support package has been made available to PicoScope users outside of the Autonerdz customer base for a one time fee of $350.

This package includes:

  • Toll Free US Phone Support. Calls are usually answered the same day. (Only practical if you are in US time zones.)
  • Group Therapy With The Picotologist Sessions. These monthly live voice enabled internet sessions enable users to interact with each other exchanging files, as well as helpful tips and techniques.
  • Email Support. This is often a great way to get your issue resolved. I can't see what you are doing on the phone but sending me your psd file allows me to see exactly what you are doing and helps me to give more precise suggestions.
  • The PicoScope Tips Article. This comprehensive article covers many of the frequently asked questions and turbo charges your launch with the PicoScope.
  • The Autonerdz PicoScope Users Email Group. This email list server connects you with our users worldwide and enables you to share files and offer tips or get help from the group. This is a great enhancement for your PicoScope experience.
  • The Autonerdz Community Forums. Access to the PicoScope Users section of the Autonerdz Community Forums.

Disclaimer: None of us has all the answers and some issues require factory support. Also, I reserve the right to go on vacation :-)
