Answers to questions

  1. The magnesium would cause the temperature of the acid to increase
  2. As long as the temperature increased by the same amount then it would be OK. However, do we know that this is the case? A faster reaction rate could mean that the temperature could increase more if the rate of reaction was faster and if you were using surface area as a factor, the temperature could also be changing - ruining your fair test! Food for thought (or investigation) here!
  3. This should be taken from the students results
  4. All variables need to be taken into consideration when planning a fair test. Just by being aware of this factor means that you can take it into consideration even if it has no affect on the validity of your test
